  • Bargaining Unit Executive Elections

    The Teachers' / Occasional Teachers' Bargaining Unit Council encourages nominations from members for the following positions on the Bargaining Unit Executive:

    Nomination:

    Members may submit nominations using the Nomination Form provided.

    Nominations received 45 days prior to the annual meeting (Monday March 26, 2018 by 4pm) shall be considered on-time, and candidates shall be eligible to participate in the campaign period (subject to the conditions of By-Law 10).  

    Additionally, on-time candidates for President may participate in All-Candidates Meetings in each region of the District.

    Written nominations for other Executive positions (Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary) may be received up to 12pm on May 10, 2018, and nominations may also be made from the floor at the Annual Meeting of the Bargaining Unit Assembly.

    Election:

    • Election of the President shall be conducted by secret ballot of the membership, in branches and online May 3 & 4, 2018.  Results of the vote shall be announced at the Annual Meeting of the Bargaining Unit Assembly on Friday May 11, 2018.
       
    • Election of the remaining Executive positions (Vice President (2), Treasurer, and Secretary) shall be conducted by secret ballot of the delegates of the Bargaining Unit Assembly at the Annual Meeting on May 11, 2018.

    Office Assistant

    OSSTF District 15 – Trillium Lakelands is seeking a highly organized, professional, and competent Office Assistant with proven skills in database management and basic bookkeeping.  The successful candidate will be responsible for providing administrative support to ensure efficient operation of the various functions of the District Office in the provision of personal and protective services to the members of OSSTF District 15.  The Office Assistant is expected to support the President, Federation Officer, Bargaining Unit Council, and members from all job classes through a variety of tasks related to administration, organization, and communication, with the utmost confidentiality, discretion, accuracy, and empathy.

    Wage: $17.25/hour (35 hours/week)

    Anticipated Start Date: February 22, 2016

    Anticipated Contract Term: 1 year (covering a maternity leave)

    The successful candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

    • Secondary School, Grade 12 diploma required, college or university an asset;
    • Excellent computer skills, including at least intermediate level proficiency with word processing (MS Word / Corel Wordperfect), database/spreadsheet (MS Excel) software, and various web applications. Knowledge of Google applications an asset;
    • Exceptional written and oral communication skills;
    • A clear understanding and demonstrated abilities for diplomacy and confidentiality required;
    • Strong orientation to member service and good interpersonal skills;
    • Exceptional organizational skills;
    • Basic accounting/bookkeeping skills and knowledge, as well as a basic proficiency with Simply Accounting;
    • Ability to work enthusiastically both independently and as part of a team;
    • Good working knowledge of administrative and office procedures;
    • Minimum of two years of general secretarial/reception/administrative office or related experience;
    • Experience with member based organizations, the labour movement, or with benefits administration an asset.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Prepare, type, edit, and proofread correspondence, invoices, presentations, brochures, publications, reports and related material;
    • Collect, open, and distribute incoming regular and electronic mail and other material and co-ordinate the flow of information internally within the District Office, with members in other worksites, the OSSTF provincial office, the District School Board, and with organizations;
    • Schedule and confirm appointments and meetings for Time Release Officers;
    • Maintain inventory of office supplies;
    • Answer telephone and electronic enquiries and relay telephone calls and messages;
    • Maintain paper and computerized information filing systems;
    • Greet visitors, ascertain nature of business, and direct as appropriate;
    • Prepare minutes of meetings;
    • Arrange travel schedules and make reservations;
    • Organize, arrange, and prepare meetings, small events, and conferences;
    • Maintain the District website;
    • Maintain member contact information and update contact lists as required;
    • Process staffing data as it arrives, updating electronic files, and OTIP, as necessary;
    • Process benefits changes as received, updating electronic files, Blue Cross, and OTIP, as necessary;
    • Assist with the administration of member benefits plans at the direction of the Federation Officer;
    • Assist the Treasurer as required, processing invoices and vouchers for cheques, and posting transactions to Simply Accounting;
    • Assist the President with the administration of the member professional development fund;
    • Compile data, statistics and other information to support research activities upon request;
    • Provide administrative support, as requested, to the Lindsay & District Labour Council;
    • Other duties as assigned.

  • District 15 Supports Striking Ontario CCAC Health Professionals

    On January 30, 2015 members of the Ontario Nurses’ Association (ONA) in bargaining units at Community Care Access Centres (CCAC) across the province went on strike over fair wages.  Click here to read the ONA press release and learn more.

    68 of these striking workers are members of our communities, living and working within the boundaries of District 15.  As a result, OSSTF District 15 has made a contribution to ONA’s strike fund, as per our policy.  OSSTF District 15 members are encouraged to bundle up and support these workers on the picket lines who are just looking for a fair deal.  Information regarding picket lines can be found here.
